Our Mission

Teaching hands-on learning that inspires creativity and builds community.

Our Vision

Building community through creative learning that inspires hands, hearts and minds.

What is a Folk School?

The Okanagan Folk School (OKFS) is about transforming lives, bringing people together in a nurturing environment for experiences in learning and community life that spark self-discovery.

A Folk School promotes and preserves the knowledge, skills, crafts, and stories of the past and present. It helps students recognize and develop their creativity, talents and interests in a student-centered environment and having experiences that affirms individual differences.

We offer year-round classes in craft, art, music, dance, cooking, gardening, nature studies, building, photography, writing, fiber arts and much more.

Its about inspiring hands, hearts, and minds.

We have a 4-pillar approach:

  1. To bring off season revenue to the town of Peachland and area.

  2. To create more employment for our artisans/instructors.

  3. To create community amongst the students and the town of Peachland (through courses, community hosts and events).

  4. Establish Peachland as the craft/art/applied skills educational Centre of Western Canada.

We named it Okanagan Folk School because there is so much talent in the Okanagan Valley. We dovetail with Arts councils and continuing education so that we add to what’s available. In time there will be Okanagan Folk School courses throughout the valley with Peachland being the centre of it.
